Push vs Remote Electric Golf Buggy: Which Is Right for You?
Share
One of the first decisions when buying an electric golf buggy is whether to get a push (electric) model or a remote-control one. Both carry your bag under power - the difference is how you control them. Here's how to choose.
The quick answer
Choose a push electric buggy if you want the lightest, best-value way to take the weight off your shoulders and you're happy to walk beside it. Choose a remote buggy if you want to send your clubs ahead, around hazards, or back to you hands-free - and don't mind paying a little more.
How a push (electric) buggy works
A push electric buggy drives its own wheels while you walk alongside and steer using the handle. You set the speed with a controller and it keeps pace with you - no remote to manage, just point and go. TopCaddy's S2 is a good example.
Pros
- Lower price than remote models
- Lighter and simpler, with fewer electronics
- Nothing extra to charge or carry
Cons
- You walk with it the whole way
- Can't send it ahead or around obstacles
How a remote buggy works
A remote buggy adds a wireless handset so you can drive it without touching the handle - forward, back, left and right - from up to 50-100 metres away depending on the model. Send it up the fairway while you finish a conversation, steer it around a bunker, or park it by the next tee. TopCaddy remote models include the TC01R and the M1.
Pros
- Hands-free control - send it where you want
- Great on undulating courses and around hazards
- Twin-motor power for extra traction and stability
Cons
- Higher price
- One more handset to keep charged and in your pocket
Which should you choose?
Pick push if you play mostly flat courses, want the best value, and don't need to send the buggy away from you.
Pick remote if you play hilly courses, love the convenience of hands-free control, or want the most capable buggy available.
